The JHP Community Center conducts a Leadership Apprenticeship, Mentoring, Program or LAMP, and is funded through After School Matters. LAMP is an intensive ten week hands on paid apprenticeship program. Apprentices actively participate in developing organizational, mentoring, teaching, and leadership skills based on the teachings of martial arts as well as learning the benefits and careers available from serving others.

There have already been many  positive influences on the enrolled students. Since the start of the program last October, LAMP has enrolled up to twenty-five youth ages 14 to 18, and implemented a hands on environment that has cultivated leadership development in MODKA and has allowed students to apply these skills by assisting in the implementation of our after school programs.

Physical training is required. All martial arts uniforms are supplied as well as daily stipends during the apprenticeship. Teens undergo an interview and selection process; if chosen teens are required to attend three days per week, three hours per day. The location and exact times will be announced.

Activities in the program include:

Extensive and intense martial arts training in MODKA.
Development of leadership skills through role playing and actual leadership positions in MODKA. Skills learned include communication, delegation, motivational, counseling, and much more.
Homework tutoring children in JHPCC's After School Programs (ASP).
Computer related activities in the use of Windows Office software and use of JHPCC administrative ASP forms.
Application of A-CLASS System in Academic training of children in math and reading.
Group fundraising projects - implementation and development.
