The JHP Community Center (JHPCC) Summer Program is an extension of its on-going
after school program. The Summer Program is divided into three main activities:
Modified Karate: All karate classes are grouped into one class during the summer; allowing
all the students to interact with one another and train together. The training
hours are also extended during the summer. The normal one hour class session is
extended up to two and a half hours per class twice a week.
Academic Development:
The academic skills taught during the summer is in preparation for the up coming
school year and includes development in reading and math skills. The programs
are computer based as well as one on one assistance. Since academic improvement
is a key component in the belting examinations of the Karate students, the
summer provides them a head start as well as strengthening their skills in this
area.
Arts Program:
The Life Arts Programs is one vehicle designed to teach youth positive values,
principles, and skills through the ARTS. The Summer Arts Program provides three
to four field trips during the summer. Different mediums of art are taught each
year and
the students are asked to complete an art project both individually and as a
group by the end of the program.
