In America, every 5 minutes a child is arrested for a violent crime; every 7 minutes a child is arrested for a drug crime; every 4 minutes a child is arrested for an alcohol related crime; and every 4 hours a child commits suicide and every 2 hours a child is murdered*.

The children and youth in our communities face a daunting challenge in overcoming the increasingly growing negative influences in our society. In America, more and more children are faced with negative outcomes such as infant mortality, undernourishment, child abuse and neglect, poor health, substance abuse, teenage pregnancy, crime, violence, and academic underachievement, due to family, community, social, political, and economic conditions which they have not created. The need for programs to help our youth overcome these challenges has never been greater.
