Programming Highlights
Avondale Elementary School renewed their After School All Stars Grant to continue funding
our after school program at Avondale for the 2006-2007 school year.
Avondale has become our flagship school and is an example of how
schools and community organizations work together for the benefit of
the children they serve. None of this would be possible without the
support and leadership of Principal
Ana Martinez Estka
. This will mark our second year with the school and we look forward
to continuing and developing our level of service to the students,
faculty and families.
Logandale
Middle School
is the newest addition to the JHPCC's after school program
sites. Logandale is a middle school serving 6th through 8th grades
and is adjacent to our current site at Avondale Elementary. We can
now continue to serve children moving from Avondale to Logandale. We
are very excited about this new transition and look forward to a
fabulous school year serving both schools. Initial enrollment
between the two schools ranged from 100 to 130 children.
JHP
Community Center
’s after school program continues service with new students from
Chappell elementary as well as the surrounding schools in our
community. Teen youth program coordinators and mentors continue to
facilitate most of the programming functions and instruction in both
the academic, art, and martial arts components.
Chappell
Elementary School
- After five years and with much deliberation, the JHPCC
has made the decision to discontinue our services at the school last
fall. Due to the increased enrollment at our other sites and limited
instructors, we have made the difficult decision to focus our
resources at sites with the greatest needs. Chappell students are
invited to continue services at the JHPCC site for both the After
School program and MODKA.
Our heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Allman and the Chappell faculty for
making our stay over the last five years an experience we will
treasure forever.
2006 JHPCC Annual Event
|
|
2006
was our largest year end event to date. Performances included
the premier of the "Fan Dance".
|
After
holding the event in school gymnasiums, the event had to be hosted
at a college gymnasium due to the growth of our student enrollments.
Students from three of our sites participated for an evening of
awards, performances, and well deserved recognitions.

LAMP News (After School Matters)
LAMP Apprenticeship Spring 2007 session is currently open for enrollment. Spring session
begins February 5th, 2007.
After School Matters extended our LAMP Apprenticeship programs for the entire
2006-2007 school year. Contracts are now renewed on an annual basis
and provides continuity for the youth that participate in our
on-going programs.
Summer Program 2006 was very exciting for us, and through After School Matters and
grants from Children and Youth Services we were able to employ
twenty-two youth between the ages of 14-19. The program included
many firsts as well as original projects and programs. ASM provided
funding for our first Advanced Apprenticeship Program as well as
seven youth interns.

Marital arts Invitational, Chicago, IL. Black Belt, Sergio Roman earned a well
fought and well deserved first place for sparring and forms. This
marked the first time the Modified Karate Club won first place in a
Black Belt division. Sergio is the first student officially awarded
the rank of Black Belt at our school and accomplished this goal at
the age of seventeen. It took Sergio over three years to reach this
rank, and it demonstrates his commitment and loyalty to our school.
