The JHP Community Center (JHPCC) offers a comprehensive community and school
based curriculum called the A-CLASS Learning System Series based on a
unique system of instruction using martial arts as the foundation of teaching
physical fitness and health, academics, art and life skills, technology related
activities, counseling, and nutritional guidance in collaboration with local
health providers, school teachers, social workers, and counselors to promote the
social, creative, physical and cognitive development of youth.
The JHPCC teaches a martial art form called Modified Karate
(MODKA). MODKA is where students are molded to develop good character,
discipline and the proper attitude required to apply in their academic as well
as their social interaction skills. From the group structure and instructions of
MODKA, students are able to relate and associate them in their academic, art and
chore activities at the center and carry with them when they are at home, in
school and in the community.
The A CLASS learning system addresses the “whole
child” and the connection between a sound body and a sound mind. This plays an
integral part in developing a healthy outlook to learning valuable life skills.
This “wholistic” approach is based on the concept that the wholeness of an
individual comes first and eventually becomes a part of the wholeness of a group
whether it is in a classroom, family or community environment.
JHPCC programs are primarily run by youth volunteers who are trained and
groomed to become leaders within the community and among their peers; increasing
the positive alternatives to at-risk youth involvement in gangs and other
detrimental activities.
The foundation and greatest emphasis in our system of teaching is the
development of the child's character. Poor self-esteem, lack of confidence,
negative attitude and behavior are the major cause for why many youth turn to
negative outside influences.
The programs provide much
needed after school time activities that meet social, emotional, academic, and physical
needs. Services are offered to at risk children and youth ages 7 to 18 years
old. Please click on the program links to find out more information about
service hours and program details.
