The After School Program (ASP) was established in February 2003. ASP provided the structure for the implementation of the A-CLASS Learning System Series in 2004. It is based on a unique system of instruction using martial arts as the foundation of teaching physical fitness and health, academics, art and life skills, technology related activities, counseling, and nutritional guidance in collaboration with local health providers, school teachers, social workers, and counselors to promote the social, creative, physical and cognitive development of youth. Activities include academic skills training in math and reading; martial arts classes; home work tutoring; technology based programs; and art programs. A complete Computer Lab at the JHPCC site is used by students to help improve their focus and concentration as well as their reading, math, and writing skills. Individual tutoring is provided through the help of volunteers and JHPCC staff and mentors. Educational software complements individual tutoring in each of these areas. In September of 2003, the JHPCC established an After School Program at Chappell Elementary School. The program was offered twice a week on Tuesday and Thursday in conjunction with the Martial Arts Classes taught on the same day. October 2005 marked the third service site at Avondale Elementary serving over one hundred children four days per week. In 2006 the program expanded to Logandale Middle School to accomodate students that move on from Avondale Elementary. Services at Chappell Elementary were canceled and offered their students to attend after school programming at the center's mother site which is only walking distance from the school. 2007 marked the first year of conducting LAMP programming at Foreman High School becoming a great resource for mentors that help out in after school programming at Avondale and Logandale schools. All students are required to participate in the martial arts component of the program as it is the defining philosophy and teaching system of the entire program.
